At 35, Cameroonian defender Nicolas Nkoulou has retired from professional football, according to L'Équipe. He spent nine years in Ligue 1 with Monaco, Marseille and Lyon.

A 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winner with Cameroon, he was one of the scorers in the 2-1 final against Egypt. He also lifted the Coupe de la Ligue with Marseille in 2012, which remains the club’s most recent trophy.

Nkoulou made the bulk of his career in Ligue 1, playing 253 times in the French top flight. He debuted professionally for AS Monaco in 2008, then joined Marseille in the summer of 2011 for a little over 3 million euros.

He went on to make 207 appearances for Marseille, more than for any other club. After a short spell at Lyon between 2016 and 2017, he left Ligue 1 for Serie A and spent four years with Torino.

He later signed for Watford, then moved to Aris, before finishing his career in Türkiye with Gaziantep, Amed SK and Sakaryaspor. Out of contract since August with Amed SK, a second-division side in Türkiye, he has now chosen to end his playing days.
