Former West Brom coach Damia Abella joins Fiorentina under Fabio Grosso | OneFootball

Former West Brom coach Damia Abella has joined Fiorentina as a technical collaborator, working under 2006 World Cup winner Fabio Grosso.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 44-year-old left Albion this summer after more than three-and-a-half years on the coaching staff. He arrived at the end of 2022 shortly after Carlos Corberan took charge.

The Catalan, a Barcelona academy product, previously worked at Watford. At The Hawthorns he was a statistical analyst across several departments, including set pieces.

He stayed on after Corberan’s exit in December 2024, spending another 18 months under Tony Mowbray, Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, and during James Morrison’s caretaker spell. He departed having earned his UEFA A Licence coaching badge, the highest available.

Grosso is newly appointed in Florence this summer, having managed Sassuolo and Lyon among others. He scored the semi-final winner and the decisive spot-kick in the 2006 final against France.

Abella called the move a special new chapter, thanked Grosso and the club for their trust and said he is excited to contribute with full commitment. Fiorentina are two-time Serie A winners and finished 15th in Italy’s top flight last season.
