The Federação Paulista de Futebol condemned and lamented homophobic abuse directed at Corinthians players during their 1-0 win over Bahia at Arena Fonte Nova on Tuesday 15 in the Brasileirão Feminino semi-finals.
According to Bahia Notícias, three Corinthians supporters were assaulted outside the away end after the match by members of a Bahia organised fan group, with reports of punches, kicks and blows using helmets and traffic cones.
The FPF reaffirmed its non-negotiable commitment to combating homophobia and any form of discrimination, adding that football must be an environment of respect, inclusion and safety for all. Corinthians had already condemned the home crowd’s actions.
The night also delivered a landmark for women’s football in Bahia, with 5,811 in attendance, including 5,578 paying, the biggest crowd for the sport in the state and the highest of this Brasileirão Feminino campaign.
Corinthians, known as As Brabas, took the advantage in the semi-finals thanks to a goal by Jhonson. The teams meet again on Monday at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena with a place in the final at stake.
