France and Italy drew 1-1 on Nations League matchday three in Saint-Denis. Michael Olise’s superb free-kick put the hosts ahead before Alessandro Bastoni levelled after Da Cunha’s error. Dayot Upamecano was sent off late and Mike Maignan denied Moise Kean to preserve the result.
According to Goal.com, Gianluigi Donnarumma dominated the second half, saving from Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Olise, then from Adrien Rabiot, before producing a stoppage-time stop from Eduardo Camavinga. Maignan was solid and had earlier seen Kean waste a clear opening.
Olise was France’s standout, hitting the bar, while Rayan Cherki won the free-kick. Dembélé endured a quiet night and missed from close range, Truffert struggled with Kayode, and Rabiot threatened only from distance. Upamecano controlled Pio Esposito before the break, then toiled against Kean and saw red for a pull-back.
Bastoni embodied Italy’s resilience, pinching the ball from Da Cunha high up and rifling in, his second in succession after scoring against Türkiye. Kayode was tireless and teed up a sitter that Kean failed to convert. Frattesi was lively, with Scalvini and Calafiori clean and calm.
Kean battled, used his strength on the counter and forced the foul that brought Upamecano’s dismissal, then went close again late on. Zinedine Zidane, visibly moved in his first match in France as head coach, oversaw a timid start and heard some whistles at full time. Roberto Mancini’s Italy were compact out of possession and dangerous on transition after the Olimpico defeat by Belgium.
