Cup specialists: Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund have both won the DFB-Pokal five times. Only Bayern Munich (20) and Werder Bremen (six) have won it more often. Borussia last lifted the trophy in 2021, Eintracht in 2018. BVB have scored 499 goals in this competition to date, 299 of them away from home. SGE have scored 501 goals in the cup.
Home & away: After two comfortable home wins against Bremen (4-1) and then Galatasaray (5-1), SGE have since suffered three consecutive defeats. In the matches against Union Berlin (4-3), Bayern Munich (3-0) and Liverpool (5-1), Eintracht Frankfurt conceded 12 goals. Borussia Dortmund have lost only one of their last nine away games across all competitions (2-1 in Munich) and have recorded six wins and two draws during this period.
Head-to-head: Borussia Dortmund have lost only one of eight matches against Eintracht Frankfurt since April 2021 – the last one in January 2025, which ended 2-0. The Black & Yellows have won 51 Bundesliga matches against the Hessians, more than against any other club. They have also scored more goals (202) against Eintracht than against any other opponent. Borussia Dortmund have recorded 11 wins after falling 1-0 down, again more than against any other team. The two clubs are meeting for the sixth time in the DFB-Pokal. The Hessians won the first two encounters in 1969 and 1979, but BVB has always prevailed in the new millennium. Borussia won 2-1 at home in 2007/08 and 1-0 away in 2013/14. The last DFB-Pokal meeting between the two clubs was the 2017 final, in which the Black & Yellows triumphed 2-1 against Niko Kovac's Eintracht thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembele and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with Ante Rebic scoring the only goal for the visitors.
The last Bundesliga meeting on the banks of the river Main: At the start of the second half of the season in mid-January 2025, BVB put in a committed performance, hitting the post in the ninth minute through Serhou Guirassy, but then conceded a goal from Hugo Etikite (18). After the break, Borussia pushed for the equaliser, but conceded a second goal in added time through Oscar Højlund.
The last cup clash on the Main: The two clubs have met five times in the DFB-Pokal, most recently in the 2017 final and before that in the quarter-finals in February 2014. In an intense duel, Borussia Dortmund narrowly but deservedly prevailed 1-0 away to Eintracht. After a good start by the home side, BVB took control of the game, but failed to take the lead in the first half despite having the better chances. After another good spell for the Hessians after the restart, the game lost much of its flow midway through the second half, before Borussia took advantage of a set piece to seal the win. In the 83rd minute, Sebastian Kehl headed Mkhitaryan's corner on at the near post, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was unmarked at the far post to nod the ball into the net.
