Mike Ashley has made an official offer for Sheffield Wednesday
Former Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has made a £20m offer to buy Sheffield Wednesday, reports have emerged.
Multiple names have been linked with a potential takeover of the Owls since former owner Dejphon Chansiri placed them into administration at the end of October.
Administrator and lifelong Wednesday fan Kris Wigfield admitted that 80 parties showed interest in becoming the Steel City side’s next owner, with that list since whittled down to the most serious parties.
With a deadline of December 5 set as the date when a preferred bidder could be revealed, bids have been flying in recently, and Ashley’s own offer has now been confirmed.

Ashley has been one of the names linked with a move to take over Wednesday from the start, having no issues declaring proof of £50m funds due to his previous history as Newcastle United.
It was recently reported that he was within the final few names seriously considered to become the Owls’ next owner, and his bid for Wednesday has now been confirmed.
According to John Percy of The Telegraph, Ashley has tabled an official offer to take over the Steel City side, and reportedly notified Wednesday’s administrators of a bid in the region of £20m on Tuesday night.
Percy also states that two American consortiums are both also showing serious interest in a takeover, with the process far from complete at this moment in time.
US billionaire John McEvoy has previously been linked with a desire to become Wednesday’s next owner, whilst Sheffield-born insurance tycoon Ryan Howsam has also reportedly made up another interested party.
Ashley hasn’t been involved in football since selling Newcastle United for £305 million in October 2021 to a consortium including Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.

Given that Ashley’s bid to take over Wednesday has now been made public, it might not be long before other offers start to be unveiled too.
This will be extremely exciting for the Hillsborough faithful to watch, as they eagerly anticipate the moment they are told who will be leading their club into the future.
Some fans will be wary of Ashley’s reputation within the game, as his time at Newcastle United represented a period of mediocrity for the Magpies.
However, they spent most of his tenure as owner in the Premier League, which the Owls would gleefully accept at this moment in time, as their return to the third-tier looks all but confirmed, whilst he's also proven to be sensible with his funds, and likely wouldn't overspend like Chansiri did before it all went wrong.
