The 2025/26 campaign has been quite the nightmare for United supporters, as they have had to watch their team struggle towards the bottom of the division after coming bitterly close to Premier League football last term.

Even bringing Chris Wilder back as manager couldn’t stop the Blades suffering defeat on a regular basis, which led to quite a negative atmosphere building inside Bramall Lane.

There has also been cause for concern off the pitch too, with it reported by journalist Alan Nixon that COH Sports, Sheffield United’s owners, could potentially look to sell the club on in 2026.

This was followed up by the even more alarming news that COH Sports were reportedly interested in pursuing a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday, which understandably sent supporters into disarray.

Despite this testing period off the pitch, there is a small hint of optimism starting to appear throughout the United fanbase that things could get better for them football-wise.

Last time out, the Blades enjoyed by far the highlight of their campaign thus far, running out 3-0 victors at Hillsborough in the Steel City derby.

With news of potential interest in a Sheffield Wednesday takeover emerging, COH Sports have decided to address the United supporters with their hopes and goals for the future, affirming their desire to remain in control at Bramall Lane.

“As the owners and custodians of the club we remain hugely confident that with your support and some targeted additions to the squad that we will soon climb up the table back to where we belong,” read the statement, addressed to fans by Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy, the co-chairmen Sheffield United Football Club.

“But be under no illusion: bringing regular Premier League football to Sheffield United is why we are here. We are working as hard as we can to further modernise the club so that it is in the strongest position to compete.

“This journey is a marathon, not a sprint. Like all clubs there has certainly been some ups and downs. However, our goals and commitment remain the same today as the day we walked in.

“Namely that is to run a club that has the smartest recruitment with the right balance of youth and experience; a club that is at the cutting edge of data, analytics and medical developments; and a club that has a deeper pool of commercial partnerships so that we can invest in the playing staff.”

It has been a turbulent few days for Sheffield United supporters, who have had to try and match the glee of defeating Wednesday in the derby with the utter confusion that has surrounded their owners, following reports of a potential sale and interest in their city rivals.

This statement has received a mixed reaction from the Bramall Lane faithful, who appreciate the good communication shown by their owners but are also wary of the recent rumours surrounding them.

“A well timed and much needed statement from the owners,” commented one fan. “Would like to see them do a bit more with local media but regular updates is sometimes the reassurance fans need.”

“Solid statement, let’s hope they keep to their words about additions in Jan!” said another.

Some supporters were less warming to their co-chairmen and wanted to make it known how unhappy they were with the club’s management in recent times.

“Great to hear that you guys are still alive and have remembered you own a football club,” stated one fan, who wanted to make sure that the rumours of interest in taking over Wednesday didn’t materialise.

“Now, just make sure you don't do anything really daft like, say, trying to buy our city rivals and merging with them.

“Luckily, no one's that daft, am I right?”

“Get somebody on the board who knows something about football!” commented another. “These lot clearly have the money but they don't have the braincells.”

There was still time for some overwhelming positivity though, with a section of United fans completely won over by the statement.

“thing is i genuinely believe them were going to dominate world football,” admitted one of the Bramall Lane faithful.
