Sheffield Wednesday administrator Kris Wigfield has provided an update on how the takeover process looks
Sheffield Wednesday administrator Kris Wigfield has opened up on when Sheffield Wednesday can be expected to be taken over.
The Owls have been in an administrative state since late October, when former owner Dejphon Chansiri was unable to satisfy a £1m HMRC bill.
Despite being hit with an automatic 12-point deduction which all but confirms their relegation to League One, Wednesday had a great deal of interested parties pursuing a move to take over the club.
Included in this list are Mike Ashley and John McEvoy, who are both reportedly extremely keen on becoming the Owls’ next owner and remain in the mix following a call for offers to be submitted by the soft deadline of November 21.
With it still unknown who Sheffield Wednesday’s next owner will be, Kris Wigfield, one of the administrators in control of the sale, has opened up on what the process looks like at this moment in time.

Despite sitting bottom of the Championship and 18 points adrift from safety, Wednesday supporters are still extremely positive about the near future and what it holds for their club.
With it stated by a former Manchester City financial advisor who is involved with one of the groups that the interested parties all have deep pockets, the Owls could soon be back in the Championship and fighting towards the top of the table.
Wigfield opened up on how the takeover process currently looks before the Steel City derby and when the Hillsborough faithful can expect to know who will be leading them forward into the future.
“We've had lots of interest,” revealed Wigfield to ITV Sport. “About 80 parties came forward and we're now at a stage where we've actually had some offers in.
“We've had offers on Friday, we're expecting a couple more on Monday, so we'll be at a stage where there are several interested parties that have made decent offers, so over the next two weeks we'll be trying to get it down to one preferred bidder.
“By the 5th of December hopefully we can announce who that is.”
Wigfield followed these comments up in a further update addressed to supporters via the club website, where he discussed offers made for the club whilst also admitting that further point penalties may be in store.
"We have received a number of good offers for the club, and over the coming days we will be evaluating them in detail,” stated Wigfield.
“As I said on Friday, our hope is to grant preferred bidder status by 5 December.
“At the same time, I have to be honest: there may be more difficult news coming, including the possibility of a further points deduction. I want to be upfront about that because our supporters deserve transparency.”

If Wednesday supporters weren’t already excited for the takeover process to conclude, they will be after Wigfield’s comments.
Given that 80 parties were originally interested in purchasing the Steel City side, Wigfield and the other administrators involved with the process of selling Wednesday must have had to select only the finest options to continue negotiating the sale with.
Therefore, whoever wins out during the final stages will be more than worthy to lead the Yorkshire outfit forward from a financial point of view, which will be music to the Hillsborough faithful’s ears.
Although further point deductions will only confirm that Wednesday will be operating out of League One next term, the positivity that comes with a new takeover should overwhelm any other negative consequences of Chansiri’s rule.
