Sheffield United have made a decision on Ryan Oné's future amid interest from Rangers

Sheffield United have decided that Ryan Oné is not for sale this summer amid speculation over a move to Rangers.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Blades have opted not to sanction a possible exit between now and the 1 September deadline.

The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan in League One with Lincoln City, where he scored five times in 16 games.

The Scot helped Michael Skubala’s side earn promotion to the Championship before returning to Bramall Lane.

Oné has yet to have a major impact at Bramall Lane, but he did feature six times in the league before going out on loan last season.

And he could now become a key fixture in Chris Wilder’s side in the upcoming campaign.

Rangers were linked with a move to sign Oné earlier this week following a long-term injury to Youssef Chermiti.

The forward suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament that could keep him out for the entirety of the season, which fuelled speculation over the addition of a forward to Ibrox.

It’s understood that talks between the two clubs have stopped, and the Blades are not willing to sanction a sale at this time.

Perhaps Rangers could yet make an offer that the Championship side simply cannot turn down, but that is an increasingly unlikely outcome with just a couple of weeks left in the market.

Oné joined Sheffield United from Hamilton Academical in 2023, and he has so far made 19 league appearances for the club since then, including one in the Premier League.

Sheffield United’s decision to keep Oné comes as part of a quiet transfer window at the Yorkshire outfit so far.

The Blades have so far added just two fresh faces to their squad, with Matt Doherty signing as a free agent after his exit from Wolves.

Meanwhile, the club have also signed Romelle Donovan from Brentford on loan for the season, with no other additions made.

Wilder will be keen to strengthen the squad before the end of the market, with the window set to shut on 1 September.

Meanwhile, Sheffield United are back in action this weekend with their opening clash of the season against Birmingham City on Saturday.

Ryan Oné decision makes sense for Sheffield United

It will have to take a significant offer for Sheffield United to cash in on Oné at this stage of the transfer window, which is a sensible decision.

He had a promising loan spell in League One, and has earned the chance to show what he can do again in the Championship this season.

The Blades also earned £10 million in the sale of Will Osula to Newcastle United not too long ago, which will set the kind of asking price they’ll want for Oné.

And it’s difficult to imagine anyone paying that much for someone who still needs to gain proper senior experience and earn consistent game time.
