Sheffield United have rejected an approach from Rangers for Ryan Oné, with a loan-to-buy offer being knocked back by the Championship side.

Sheffield United have reportedly rejected a loan with buy with option approach from Scottish giants Rangers for Ryan Oné, according to journalist, Ben Jacobs.

Oné has been with Sheffield United since 2023, and has found regular game time hard to come by with the Blades, who will be eyeing promotion back into the Premier League this season under the management of Chris Wilder.

The forward has three years remaining on his current contract with the Championship club, although it remains to be seen whether he'll see out the remainder of his deal with the Yorkshire-based side.

Oné spent the second-half of the 2025/26 season on loan with Lincoln City, and played his part in the Imps' promotion-winning campaign, scoring five goals in 16 appearances.

That strong run of form seemingly didn't go unnoticed, with Rangers registering their interest in landing his signature on a temporary basis, although there was a permanent option submitted in their original bid.

Oné hasn't featured heavily for Sheffield United's first-team since signing for the Blades, and he's scored once in his 22 appearances for the club.

He was a late substitute in Sheffield United's comfortable 3-0 win over League One side, Mansfield Town in the EFL Cup at the weekend, but made an impact in that victory, as he provided the assist for the Blades' third goal on the day, which was scored by Callum O'Hare.

The striker has plenty of competition for a starting spot in Chris Wilder's side, with the likes of Patrick Bamford, Tom Cannon, and Tyrese Campbell all competing for a spot in the team.

Bamford wasted no time in opening his account for the 2026/27 season, as he scored after just four minutes for the Blades in that win over Mansfield on Sunday.

It seems a tough ask for Oné to force his way into Wilder's plans on a regular basis, and it would be interesting to see whether a move to Ibrox would tempt the 20-year-old, who still has his best years ahead of him.

You would imagine that a move to Rangers on either a temporary or permanent basis could be a tempting proposition for the youngster, especially given that the Scottish side are featuring in European competitions this term.

Sheffield United clearly aren't keen to lose Oné this summer after turning down the first approach from Rangers, and it'll be interesting to see whether a second bid for his services will be made.

In the report from Ben Jacobs, it's claimed that talks are ongoing between both Sheffield United and Rangers over a potential deal for the 20-year-old.

Rangers made a poor start to this year's league campaign, as they were beaten at home to Hibernian, where they clearly lacked a cutting edge in front of goal.

The Gers will be looking to end their five-year spell without the Scottish Premiership title, which has been won by Celtic. They've clearly highlighted Ryan Oné as a player who could add much-needed quality to their attacking options this season, and at the age of 20, he's still got his best years ahead of him.

It remains to be seen whether a deal can be struck between all parties, but Sheffield United will be focused on their first Championship game of the 2026/27 season, when they take on Birmingham City on Saturday evening.
