Álvaro Odriozola’s cruciate ligament rupture confirmed on Sunday takes Real Sociedad’s tally to 11 in the past 13 years. The full-back was injured at Anoeta during the match against Real Oviedo.

AS reports that the incident extends a grim sequence of long-term knee injuries that has repeatedly sidelined first-team players.

Long layoffs include Carlos Fernández, who waited 498 days to play again, delayed further by other fitness problems. Sadiq Umar required 335 days to return after being hurt at the Coliseum.

Mikel Oyarzabal spent 293 days out. Former player David Silva chose to retire after his rupture.

Also on the list are Hamari Traoré, injured last season, Aihen Muñoz, who suffered his at Balaídos, and Martin Merquelanz, who endured another ordeal.

Earlier years also saw Sergio Canales, Esteban Granero and Carlos Martínez go through the same process.
