Gabriel Gudmundsson returned from injury on Thursday, starting Sweden’s 2-2 draw with Greece in Stockholm. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the Leeds United defender logged his first minutes in almost six weeks.

He had been sidelined by a hamstring injury in Leeds’ FA Cup semi-final loss to Chelsea on April 26, missing the final four league games. He was still named in Sweden’s World Cup squad and said he would be ready.

Gudmundsson missed Monday’s 3-1 defeat to Norway in Oslo, but head coach Graham Potter said he would feature against Greece. He started at wing-back at Strawberry Arena and played 64 minutes before Elliot Stroud came on with the score 1-1 after Kostas Tsimikas and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres traded goals.

Gustaf Nilsson then put Sweden ahead, only for Giorgos Masouras to level in the 95th minute. Sweden finish their two warm-ups winless, with a transatlantic trip now looming.

Gudmundsson will hope he has proved his fitness to keep his place. Potter said he is still weighing up his XI for the opener in 10 days, stressing there is time to train and a need to balance competition with stability.

Sweden begin against Tunisia in Guadalupe, Mexico on June 15, then meet the Netherlands in Houston, Texas five days later. They conclude the group in Arlington, also in Texas, against Ao Tanka’s Japan on June 26.
