Jon Mikel Aramburu spent much of Monday firefighting down Sevilla’s left at the Sánchez Pizjuán, and his booking means he will miss the trip to Betis.
According to Diario Vasco, Sevilla repeatedly found space on that flank, with Barrene offering limited cover and Turrientes, Gorrotxa and Soler focused on shutting inside lanes, while Oyarzabal dropped back only intermittently.
Ejuke went straight at Aramburu, who coped early on before the pressure mounted. Sensing joy, Vargas drifted across and Suazo bombed on, and with Barrene posing little threat the tide became hard to stem.
On 27 minutes Aramburu was cautioned for an elbow on Carmona, leaving him walking a disciplinary tightrope. The Sevilla coach Luis García Plaza clamoured for a red, prompting a wry smile from the Venezuelan before the pair exchanged words and shared a brief embrace.
Ejuke kept at it, darting in behind for a chance that Remiro saved, and he slung over a couple of crosses after beating the Caracas-born full-back, neither led to a goal. Pinned so deep, Aramburu did not deliver a single cross, rarely getting near Vlahodimos’ area.
Second-half cramps for Ejuke and a tiring Vargas blunted Sevilla’s edge, giving Aramburu some relief until Rino Matarazzo replaced him with Wesley on 82 minutes to add bite for Real.
Aramburu was dribbled past on one occasion, made three recoveries, lost 15 possessions and had 67 touches. Unlike Gary Cooper, this was no Oscar-winning turn. His suspension leaves Matarazzo with a selection problem, likely moving Aritz to full-back and probably turning to Luken Beitia at centre-back.
