Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville has revised his Premier League title race prediction on Manchester City just six games into the season.

The former Manchester United defender initially tipped Pep Guardiola’s side as genuine contenders for the title alongside reigning champions and runners-up Liverpool and Arsenal.

However, he now believes only two teams can realistically go all the way.

Speaking last month on his Sky Sports podcast, Neville revealed that he was impressed by the way Liverpool, Arsenal, and Man City started the season.

The Reds kicked things off with a 4-2 win against an impressive Bournemouth side while Arsenal eked out a 1-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Man City also saw off Wolverhampton Wanderers, running out 4-0 winners at Molineux Stadium. At that point, Neville felt that all three clubs were evenly matched.

“Between Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City, all of them have got cases to win the Premier League,” he said.

“Liverpool may be slight favourites, but I don’t think any club will be completely confident to win the league, even though they all have a great chance. It’s really close I think.”

However, he has now tweaked his prediction, removing Man City from the picture despite their thumping 5-1 victory against newly promoted Burnley over the weekend.

After starting the season in blistering form with five consecutive wins in the Premier League and seven across all competitions, Liverpool suffered their first defeat over the weekend.

Arne Slot’s side fell 2-1 to FA Cup winners Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, courtesy of a last-minute goal from former Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah.

The Gunners also returned to winning ways, coming from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1 at St. James’ Park thanks to late goals from Mikel Merino and Gabriel Magalhaes.

“Mikel Arteta has got a brilliant squad,” Neville said (via The Standard).

“He’s got a brilliant squad, I think he’s got the best squad in the league and maybe the best team in the league, and I say that quietly because Liverpool are excellent.

“There’s only two teams who can win this league – Liverpool and Arsenal – I don’t think anyone else can.”

Neville’s comments came despite Man City’s resurgence. After back-to-back defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion, Guardiola’s side have gone five games unbeaten in all competitions.

Last weekend’s victory against Burnley helped Man City close the gap on Liverpool to five points.
