Millwall secured the signing of Middlesbrough forward Duncan Watmore on Deadline Day, with the 28-year-old arriving for an undisclosed fee.
Starting out at Manchester United within the youth ranks, Watmore’s first senior experience came in the non-league with Altrincham, all before Sunderland took a punt on him.
During his time with the Black Cats, Watmore got to know now Millwall teammate George Honeyman, with the Wearside club going through a transitional period during the 28-year-old’s time with Sunderland.
Speaking to News at Den about the new arrival at Millwall, Honeyman told News At Den: “I’m speaking about Duncan as a person, and he’s one of the best guys you’re very likely to meet, and he’s a great football player.
“I think he’s a top, top bloke and a really good football player. Whoever has him is lucky to have him.

“I think he’ll suit Millwall down to the ground to be honest. He’s a great guy and a proven Championship player, and a really good one at that.”
The verdict
Watmore is a player who will certainly provide Millwall’s frontline with something completely different and that could be vital as the Lions chase down promotion.
A pacey and dynamic frontline operator, who possesses bundles of energy, can cause all sorts of havoc for opposing defences and could be a real weapon for Gary Rowett to call upon.
Having someone close to you, like Honeyman, can be a massive helping hand when going to a new club and it will certainly aid the settling-in process.
Now, it will be interesting to see how he gets on at The Den and if he can make a difference in the context of this play-off race.
