Germany crushed Curaçao 7-1, with Felix Nmecha outstanding and Leroy Sané wasteful in front of goal. The minnows briefly drew level before Germany pulled clear.

Nmecha struck in the sixth minute, almost doubling up with a fierce ninth-minute drive. Sané spurned a clear opening on 11 minutes, and Florian Wirtz's best look was a curled effort in the 14th. According to L'Équipe, Nmecha was marked eight, with Wirtz and captain Joshua Kimmich on seven.

Livano Comenencia levelled on 21 minutes, the first World Cup goal in Curaçao’s history. He blocked Pavlovic at 30 minutes and fought in duels despite gaps around him. He was marked six.

Sané endured a flat display for Galatasaray, marked four. A misplaced back pass on 31 minutes summed it up, and he missed again on 32 minutes amid passive duelling and poor choices.

Nmecha won a penalty at 45+3 and was foiled by Room on 50 minutes. Jamal Musiala, rated six, scored from a tight angle on 47 minutes, having been involved in the opener. Kimmich’s calm control and two assists, for Musiala and Undav on 78 minutes, underlined his influence.

Right-back Sherel Floranus struggled in one-v-one situations and received two, often left without cover. Midfielder Juninho Bacuna was off the pace on four.
