Getafe and Atletico Madrid face each other on Sunday in a La Liga fixture. The match will take place at Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, Getafe’s home ground, in the South Madrid suburbs.
Getafe continue to face defensive and midfield concerns due to an ongoing injury situation. Midfielder Yvan Neyou remains sidelined and unavailable for selection. Jiri Letacek is doubtful, and Davinchi remains sidelined and won’t be available at least before January.
However, encouraging news arrived for manager José Bordalás regarding defender Kiko Femenía, who has returned to full training this week and is available for the match against the Colchoneros after overcoming an undisclosed injury. The defender, a regular in the backline this season, will compete with Juan Iglesias for a starting position in the defence.
Additionally, forward Borja Mayoral continues as Getafe’s key attacking outlet, having scored 4 goals in La Liga this season, though he will face a stern test against Atlético’s organised defensive structure.
Atlético Madrid face a significant concern in goal, where first-choice goalkeeper Jan Oblak remains doubtful due to knee discomfort sustained during Slovenia’s international fixtures.
The Slovenian shot-stopper did not train on Thursday, with tests ruling out a serious injury, but his lack of full training availability may prevent him from featuring this weekend.
Should Oblak be unavailable, Juan Musso, the Argentine backup goalkeeper, is expected to start. In further injury concerns for Diego Simeone’s side, defenders Robin Le Normand is a confirmed absentee from the squad and Johnny Cardoso is also a major doubt.
Striker Julián Álvarez, Atlético’s top scorer with seven goals in 12 La Liga matches, is doubtful to play due to illness. The forward missed two consecutive training sessions with the flu and did not play for Argentina during the international break due to vaccination requirements for travel to Angola. His involvement in Friday’s training session will determine whether he will be available for Sunday’s encounter.
Getafe have experienced inconsistent form, winning only two of their last eight La Liga matches but the good sign is both the wins came in their last 3 matches though they would be disappointed after losing 0-1 to Mallorca, a team ranked lower in the table, before the intentional break in November. Currently positioned 8th in the La Liga standings with 17 points from 12 matches, with a record of 5 wins, 2 draws, and 5 losses.
Atlético Madrid have been in formidable form, winning four of their last five La Liga matches with a single draw and haven’t lost any league games since their first week shocker. Currently 4th in the La Liga standings with 25 points from 12 matches, boasting a record of 7 wins, 4 draws, and 1 loss, Atlético average 2.08 points per game.
