Gianluca Prestianni is training separately with Argentina after left ankle pain flared up, and he has reduced his workload while he awaits assessment.
Record reports that, having joined up with the squad, the Benfica winger felt the issue again in his left ankle and is not working with the main group. The No 25 travelled to South America after the game with Porto, where he was in clear discomfort after 20 minutes and requested treatment, though no problem was found at the time to rule him out of international duty.
For now he must ease off and wait for clinical evaluation, with any decision on a possible pause dependent on how the problem develops in the coming days. Argentina’s medical staff have taken extra care since the flare-up followed his journey home.
His return to the national team, after missing the World Cup, is therefore not unfolding as hoped. The situation concerns Lionel Scaloni, and Marco Silva is also monitoring it closely as the 20-year-old has emerged as a key figure for Benfica at the start of the season.
Prestianni’s recent form has strengthened his place in the manager’s plans, so any stoppage would be a setback for Benfica. He remains under assessment as Argentina decide whether he is fit to face Bolivia, Burkina Faso and Benin in upcoming friendlies.
