Manchester United have received a major lifeline in their bid to secure the services of Gleison Bremer from Juventus, according to a fresh update.
United are already bracing for the January transfer window after a busy summer in which they primarily focused on bolstering their attacking department.
The backline is an area of the pitch United could look to address, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the football leadership group keen to ensure Ruben Amorim has the tools to fight for trophies and top honours.
Over the past few days, there has been noise that United have revived their interest in Bremer. United had been linked with Bremer for months before he sustained an ACL injury in October, which effectively rendered him unavailable for transfer.
Having recently returned to action, he is once again attracting overtures, with United among the clubs thought to be weighing up a move.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Juventus have no interest in parting ways with Bremer. The Old Lady will only sanction a sale if they receive “mind-blowing” offers in the region of €70-80m.
However, it has now emerged that the Brazilian centre-back has a release clause that may lower his price tag, and Liverpool are working to edge out rivals in the chase.
According to TuttoJuve, Bremer has a €55m release clause that becomes active between next June and July.
His current terms run until 2029 and Juventus are eager to offer him a new deal and improve his salary, while also removing the release clause. This would put them in a much better negotiating position when suitors like United come calling.
Alternatively, Juventus could resign themselves to losing Bremer just like they have with Dusan Vlahovic.
A separate TuttoJuve report claims that Liverpool are “firmly focused” on Bremer but there is strong competition from United.
Bremer’s preferred destination is still unclear at this stage.
