NJ/NY Gotham FC will begin their three-game road trip tomorrow when the team battles Angel City FC for the first time this season. However, on Thursday, the club announced a flurry of roster moves before this difficult stretch.
So, what happened and what moves were made? Take a look at the latest Gotham FC news roundup that focuses on the roster.
Gotham FC announced on Thursday that the club and forward Cece Kizer agreed to terminate her contract, allowing her to seek opportunities elsewhere. She only played 99 minutes in the NWSL regular season since she joined the Bats back in September.
Kizer was signed as a depth player, but has played less than expected. That is probably why she wanted to leave, which makes sense. At the same time, she adds to the already high departure total since the end of the 2024 season. Her leaving does not have as big of an impact since she was with the team for under a year.
Nevertheless, Kizer would have been a solid depth player to have on the roster in 2025. Hopefully, she will find a home where she can play more regularly and will not terminate another contract.
Once again, Gotham FC had to sign two players as short-term injury replacement players due to injuries to goalkeepers Shelby Hogan and Ryan Campbell. Per the club, Hogan is on the 45-day injury list while Campbell will not be available for the road trip.
As such, Gotham has signed Michelle Betos to another short-term contract after she was with the team last week against the North Carolina Courage. The retired keeper will temporarily step away from her goalkeeper coaching duties while she backs up Ann-Katrin Berger.
Additionally, the club signed Tyler McCamey as the third-string keeper. She was recently with Princeton University and appeared in 56 collegiate games.
Surely, nobody thought the goalkeeper group would have two players out due to injury. Thankfully, the ability for NWSL teams to sign injury replacement players is extremely helpful. Plus, Gotham already knows what Betos is capable of. This will allow the front office to breathe easily, knowing that Berger has a reliable backup player in Betos.
All of the player moves will not impact Gotham FC in the team's preparation for the match against Angel City FC.
