Grêmio set a new Arena do Grêmio attendance record on Thursday night, as the Copa do Brasil quarter-final Gre-Nal drew the biggest crowd since the venue opened in December 2012.

According to Globo.com, 55,695 watched the 454th instalment of the rivalry, topping the previous official mark by 300.

The prior official record was 55,337 for the 2016 Copa do Brasil final against Atlético-MG. The 2012 inauguration friendly with Hamburg drew more than 60,000. Tickets sold out around 16:00 on Thursday.

Match accounts listed 55,376 paying spectators and 319 non-paying, with revenue of R$ 5,459,371.27.

The celebrations began well before kick-off as Grêmio fans gathered around the ground. The team bus was greeted at the gate with fireworks, flares and other pyrotechnics.

Earlier in 2026, the season’s biggest Arena crowd had also been a Gre-Nal, with 50,166 attending the first leg of the Gauchão final on 1 March. Grêmio have recorded a rise in average attendance in the first half of the year.
