Grêmio have agreed to loan 21-year-old midfielder Leonel Pérez to Racing for one year, with a US$ 3.5 million option to buy at the end of the deal, around R$ 17.8 million.

The club have yet to confirm the move publicly, and the loan fee has not been disclosed. Grêmio also owe Racing money from the signing of fellow Argentine midfielder Nardoni, who arrived around the same time as Pérez.

Pérez joined from Huracán at the start of the year. Grêmio purchased 50% of his economic rights for US$ 2.83 million, R$ 14.7 million, and he signed a contract through 2029.

Racing have recently lost a player in that role, with Santiago Sosa moving to Vasco.

After the World Cup break, Pérez lost his starting place at Grêmio, with the Peruvian Erick Noriega now operating as the first-choice holding midfielder.

Despite the negotiation with the Argentine club, he remains on the bench for Saturday’s match against São Paulo at the Arena in the 22nd round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
