Grêmio announced Jéssica de Lima as head coach of the women’s team on Wednesday afternoon. According to Globo.com, she replaces Cyro Leães, dismissed on Monday, and has signed a contract running until December 2027.

The 44-year-old’s last job was with Ferroviária, where she worked until June last year. She became the longest-serving coach in Brazilian women’s football at two years and nine months. She oversaw 97 matches, winning 53, drawing 23 and losing 21.

With Ferroviária, she won the Copa Paulista Feminina and finished runners-up in the Brazilian championship in 2023. The club also qualified for the Copa Libertadores Feminina in 2022, 2024 and 2025, and for the Supercopa do Brasil Feminina in 2024.

A Physical Education graduate, de Lima previously worked at Realidade Jovem as a fitness coach, later taking over as head coach. She also served as an assistant with Brazil’s under-20s.

Grêmio have endured a difficult start to the campaign, failing to collect a point in three rounds. Defeat to a Rio side was their third in a row, after losing to Santos in the opener and to Palmeiras. De Lima will debut against her former club when the tricolores visit Ferroviária at Fonte Luminosa on Saturday at 18:00.
