Grêmio have been in talks with Racing since late last week over a move for 23-year-old midfielder Juan Nardoni, who is their priority for the position, according to Gremistas.net.

Manager Luis Castro considers midfield the squad’s biggest current need. Guido Rodríguez was the first option but he agreed a deal with Valencia.

Nardoni emerged after a positive assessment of his profile and resale potential given his age. Racing are holding out for around 10 million dollars, and Grêmio are exploring ways to approach that figure.

Racing own 70% of Nardoni’s economic rights, with Union Santa Fé holding 30% and a 10% cut of any amount above six million dollars, which helps explain the valuation.

Grêmio proposed including players to bridge the gap. Forward Aravena was offered, but Racing were not interested.

Racing accept a sale could be worthwhile, although their initial preference was a move to Europe. With no official offers from that market, talks with Grêmio could progress. Despite the high numbers for their finances, the club continue to seek a lower price and intend to conclude the deal in the coming days.
