Grêmio head coach Luís Castro and senior players met representatives of organised supporters at the Arena on Monday afternoon amid the team’s struggles in the Brasileirão.

The sit-down followed supporters going to Salgado Filho Airport on Sunday night to seek contact and protest over the league form. The delegation used an alternative exit, so no contact was made.

The mobilisation came after a 1-0 defeat to Bragantino at Cícero Marques de Souza in the Campeonato Brasileiro. The result left the Tricolor 15th on 25 points, one above the relegation zone.

On Thursday, Grêmio face Inter in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarter-finals at Beira-Rio, kick-off 20:00. A run of two derbies, with a match against Chapecoense in between, is viewed as pivotal for Luís Castro’s future at the club.
