Grêmio have extended 17-year-old attacking midfielder Roger’s contract after his eye-catching senior debut, signed on Friday.
According to Globo.com, the new deal runs to the end of 2028 and includes a €100 million release clause, equivalent to R$ 623.6 million, the same as Tiaguinho’s. His previous contract was due to expire at the end of May 2027.
Roger impressed in the Campeonato Gaúcho opener, a 4-0 win over Avenida, helping create the first goal, assisting the second and scoring the third, all on his professional debut.
Despite being eligible for the Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior, Roger stayed in Porto Alegre. He joined the senior group alongside Gabriel Mec, Tiaguinho, Luis Eduardo, goalkeeper Gabriel Menegon and midfielder Jefinho.
Roger Dias Fernandes is from Santa Maria in central Rio Grande do Sul. He played at Clube do Comércio’s school in São Jerônimo, about 70 kilometres from Porto Alegre, and entered Grêmio’s under-11s after a trial at the Cristal neighbourhood school.
