Pep Guardiola expressed his delight as Manchester City secured a 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the League Cup last night.
Phil Foden opened the scoring in the 18th minute and later set up Savinho in the second half to seal victory for the Premier League side.
Huddersfield tried to frustrate City with a change of shape, but they adapted well and controlled the match for long periods.
Speaking after the game, Guardiola praised his players for their patience, attitude and the way they handled a tricky away challenge.
“A good one – it is always tricky, but we played really well,” he told Sky Sports. “They changed their shape and we had to improve in the build-up, but we did really well in general.
“We are in the next round, it is good! I do not take it for granted. The spirit is back in many things – I am so pleased. It was really good.”
The victory has eased some of the pressure on City, who had struggled for consistency in recent weeks across domestic competitions.
Guardiola emphasised that the improved spirit within the team will be crucial as they seek to build momentum.
City will now travel to face Swansea City in the next round of the League Cup, with ties scheduled for the week starting October 27.
They will turn their attention back to the Premier League as they host newly promoted Burnley at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
