Matteo Guendouzi confronted Lyon supporters after the final whistle, making provocative gestures that sparked a melee between players from both sides.
According to Superdeporte, one flashpoint saw him place his hands over his genital area, which drew an immediate response from several Lyon players. He also chanted "Allez l'OM, allez l'OM", a nod to rivals Marseille.
Guendouzi accepted the chant was intentional and said he has never hidden his support for Marseille. He spent two seasons with the club, adding extra edge to the taunt.
He later said he reacted to sustained abuse, claiming around 60,000 people insulted his mother, family and children, and that no one told them to stop.
The incident continued with clashes among players and tension around the tunnel area. Any disciplinary outcome for Guendouzi remains to be determined.
