Fenerbahce sealed a Champions League group-stage place in Lyon, but scenes turned ugly after full-time as Matteo Guendouzi became embroiled with home staff and fans, according to Goal.com.

Goals from Moriki and Archie Brown put the visitors ahead, and although Malik Fofana scored, Lyon went out.

Guendouzi had clashed with home supporters during the game. He said they insulted his family, so he responded with obscene gestures. After full-time he headed to the Fenerbahce corner, where Lyon goalkeeping coach Antonio Ferreira confronted him.

Footage showed Guendouzi’s team-mates striking Ferreira and surrounding him at the tunnel entrance, escalating the confrontation as both camps became involved, with clips circulating widely on social media.

Corentin Tolisso criticised Guendouzi, saying he should have celebrated with his team, stayed humble and left frustrated Lyon fans alone, calling the behaviour irresponsible and hoping he learns.

Guendouzi countered that around 60,000 people insulted his mother and family for 90 minutes and even during the warm-up, and that officials did not intervene to calm things or pause play, which he said affected him deeply. He argued any joking should be mutual and lamented limits on how players celebrate. He added that he supports Olympique Marseille and has never hidden it, insisting it was a joke after enduring abuse of his family.
