Gorka Guruzeta’s strike in Bergamo hauled Athletic back to 1-1 and set up a comeback. It also left him on four Champions goals for the club, one behind the legendary Artetxe.

As reported by as.com, the forward has stepped up amid Sannadi’s injury and Iñaki’s poor form. He has four goals in 2026 from the seven Athletic have scored, netting against Osasuna in Pamplona, adding a Copa double in León, and supplying an assist in Mallorca, where he was sent off for dissent and will miss Sevilla. Lekue is also suspended.

In Bergamo the equaliser came straight from Valverde’s playbook, a long pass from the back by Lekue, a chest layoff from Navarro, and a one-on-one finished low inside the post. Guruzeta later played down the difficulty, saying it had felt straightforward.

Serrano and Navarro then completed the turnaround. The goal made Guruzeta Athletic’s second top scorer in the European Cup, now called Champions, on four, one behind Artetxe, with Merodio and Aduriz on three.

He said being in that company was an honour, though the priority is progressing with qualification in their own hands. He added the comeback owed to pride and never stopping believing.
