Santos midfielder Gustavo Henrique has suffered a left adductor injury and should be sidelined for at least two weeks.
According to Diario Do Peixe, he started but was withdrawn after 27 minutes of the first half in the 0-0 draw with Coritiba at Vila Belmiro, the first leg of the fifth phase of the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday 22.
He would have missed the next Brasileirão match against Bahia anyway after receiving a third yellow card. The injury now leaves Santos without him beyond that fixture.
He recently signed a new contract through to the end of 2030, having previously extended a deal that had been due to run until January 2028. The club hierarchy had been satisfied with his performances and moved quickly to agree fresh terms, with coach Cuca’s backroom team also on board.
Nicknamed Gustavinho, he played his final Copinha in January, featuring in five matches, then joined the senior squad after ageing out of the academy. He made his first-team debut off the bench in the 2-1 win over Novorizontino on 10 January, the Paulistão opener at Vila Belmiro.
Since then he has established himself in midfield, featuring in the Brasileirão and the Sul-Americana. In the youth set-up he even filled in at right-back. He started out at Independente, had a spell with Corinthians, and has been at Santos for eight years.
