Hakimi appeals in rape accusation case

Achraf Hakimi, the 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain right-back, has been the target since late 2023 of a rape investigation following a statement made to the criminal police by a 23-year-old woman (at the time of the alleged events). The Nanterre prosecutor’s office had requested that he be committed for trial, and the player appealed. That appeal was rejected by the Versailles Court of Appeal, which should lead to a trial. Except that the full-back has now turned to the Court of Cassation, as reported by AFP. This was relayed by Le Parisien.

“One week after the confirmation of his referral to a criminal court over the rape allegation made by a young woman in February 2023, Achraf Hakimi has decided to appeal to the Court of Cassation, as announced by AFP. Last Friday, the Versailles Court of Appeal confirmed the indictment of the Paris Saint-Germain full-back, following the investigating judge’s decision made at the end of February. His lawyers have nevertheless filed one final appeal before the Court of Cassation.”

It is a major decision on the part of Hakimi and those around him, who no doubt have grounds for trying this route. It is still impossible to know what will come of it; we will have to wait. In any case, the player showed his confidence a few days ago. All that remains is to wait for the justice system to do its work so that matters become clearer.
