Kicker reports that Hamburg keeper Daniel Peretz is engaging in a training strike in an effort to force his Southampton move. Peretz was initially late to report to the resumption of HSV training on Friday due to a flight cancellation. Kickernevertheless reports that Peretz has been in the German Hanseatic city-state all weekend, yet not reported to training in protest of his stalled move to the EFL Championship outfit.
In reporting on the matter two days ago, Get German Football News expressed confidence that the deal would still go through. There appears to be no reason to alter this stance. The stalled cancellation of Peretz’s Bayern Munich loan deal relates solely to the fact that Hamburg must contend with many moving components during the current January transfer window.
A replacement option for Peretz must be secured first before Hamburg can agree to the early termination of the loan. The HSV front office presently runs at a reduced speed due to the surprise resignation of board-member-for-sport Stefan Kuntz late last week. Peretz’s decision not to risk injury and merely train in the club’s weight room is perfectly understandable.
It stands to reason that Peretz’s loan club can procure an experienced keeper to back up No. 1 Daniel Heuer Fernandes in a matter of days. Once that piece of business has been taken care of, matters should proceed quickly. Hamburg certainly have no use for a back-up not willing to participate in team training.
