Barcelona get their 2026-27 season underway, as well as the defence of their La Liga title, with a trip to Elche on Sunday. Flick confirms Rodri absence, group training return on Monday

One of Barcelona’s World Cup stars is Rodri, who is behind his teammates after undergoing minor surgery a few weeks ago. Flick has confirmed that the new signing will not be available against Elche, although he hopes to have him available next weekend.

“Rodri will train with the group from Monday. He won’t feature tomorrow. He did specific gym work and individual training today. We’re very happy with his signing. He is fantastic. He is a leader. His personality is great.”

In more positive news, Flick has confirmed that Joao Cancelo, who also joined this week after terminating his Al Hilal contract, will be in the squad, although his disrupted pre-season may mean that he cannot start.
