Harry Amass is reportedly poised to return to Manchester United after suffering an injury just a week into his loan spell with Norwich City.
Amass spent the first half of the current campaign at Sheffield Wednesday, where he impressed despite the club’s woes on and off the pitch.
As with all United loanees, United inserted a break clause that they could activate in January. Wednesday made a strong push to retain Amass but the Red Devils decided to recall him. Several Championship clubs expressed an interest in Amass but United decided to loan him out to Norwich.
Amass made his Norwich debut in an impressive 2-1 victory over league leaders Coventry City.
He enjoyed a solid cameo but he was unable to build on it as he picked up an injury in training. Norwich boss Philippe Clement told reporters that the issue seemed “serious.”
Now, The Sun’s Samuel Luckhurst has revealed the nature of the injury while revealing that Amass could return to United for treatment.
Luckhurst writes, “Harry Amass faces a possible recall to Manchester United for checks on a hamstring injury.”
“The 18-year-old is waiting for a decision to be made on whether he will be assessed by United’s medical staff.”
“Norwich manager Philippe Clement claimed Amass faces a lengthy lay-off, which suggests a significant Grade 2 or Grade 3 injury.”
It’s understood that the Canaries will not bring in a left-back to replace Amass before the winter window slams shut.
The report notes that Amass’ United contract expires next summer. The 20-time English champions will make a definitive decision on his future at the end of the season.
Amass made his senior United debut in March last year, coming on as a 69th-minute substitute in a 3-0 win against Leicester City.
