Harry Amass has been voted Player of the Month for December by Sheffield Wednesday fans. It is the second consecutive month in which the 18-year-old has received the award.

Amass has been a mainstay in the Championship side’s line-up, making 20 appearances already this season. Having won the vote by a landslide in November, Sheffield Wednesday revealed that it was closer this month, as Amass garnered “27% of the vote, while Pierce Charles, who made his return from injury last month, finished in second spot with 25%.”

Shining amidst a struggling environment

Despite Wednesday struggling at the bottom of the Championship table, Amass has still managed to stand out and demonstrate his qualities.

The defensive experience he has gained so far is exemplified by Amass’ 3.14 tackles per 90 minutes, a figure which puts him above 96% of full-backs across the Men’s Next 14 Competitions after the Big 5 leagues, according to FBref.com.

With more than 50% more tackles than any other Sheffield Wednesday player this season, Amass has not only excelled in his defensive responsibilities but also in possession. Manchester United academy followers are well aware of the youngster’s ability to play out of pressure, and he has continued to demonstrate that quality while on loan.

Ranking in the 96th percentile for successful take-ons and the 83rd percentile for progressive carries, Amass’ importance to his loan club is further highlighted by the fact that he leads the team in goal-creating actions this season with six.

Future uncertainty

With the January transfer window now open, there is some uncertainty regarding Amass’ future for the remainder of the season.

Sheffield Wednesday remain confident that the England youth international will stay at the club for the rest of the campaign.

However, after making waves with his performances, Amass is attracting interest from other clubs higher up the Championship table.

Stoke City, who are in the hunt for the play-off spots, are reportedly one of several clubs looking to lure Amass away from Hillsborough.

The left-back’s long-term future at Manchester United is also in question, with a decision set to be made this summer as his contract enters its final year.

It is still unclear what will happen, particularly following Amorim’s comments regarding struggling and academy player entitlement, as well as Amass’ social media response with his Player of the Month award.
