Leicester City are gearing up for a huge final few months of the season, with the club needing results to avoid any fears of relegation to League One.

With the threat of a points deduction still hanging over the Foxes, all connected to the club are aware that things could be about to get a lot worse before they get better.

It’s fair to say that Leicester have been in disarray in recent years, and the immediate focus for key figures at the King Power Stadium is to appoint a new head coach after Marti Cifuentes’ unsuccessful time in charge.

Leicester City set for major summer rebuild

Yet, no matter who is in charge, or what division Leicester are in, it seems evident they will have a major rebuild going into next season.

A major issue over the years has been recruitment, with the club failing to have a clear strategy when it comes to identifying talent, and they have made lots of mistakes in the market.

However, one positive is that several senior players are out of contract, which will reduce the wage bill substantially, and give more freedom to what fans will hope is a fresh start for the club.

With that in mind, we look at the players who are set to leave Leicester on a free when their deal expires in the summer as it stands, as per Transfermarkt

Asmir Begovic

The experienced keeper joined as a backup in the summer, but he has been called upon this season, playing in five Championship games so far - and in the eyes of some fans, he should be starting!

At 38, Begovic is past his best, but he brings real experience to the dressing room, which could be invaluable over the next few months.

It remains to be seen if he will continue his playing career, or if he will move into coaching, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he did stay in some capacity.

Ricardo Pereira

Ricardo Pereira has done a lot for Leicester over the years, and he was an outstanding player after he initially joined from Porto.

But, he has struggled with injuries, and whilst we don’t know his exact contract details, you would expect him to be one of the top earners at the club.

With his inconsistent form, injury issues and salary, a departure feels inevitable in the summer.

Jamaal Lascelles

The centre-back has just signed on a short-term deal from Newcastle, with the Foxes hoping that he can add strength and experience to the back line.

Ultimately, no decision will be made on Lascelles' future until the season has ended, and it will depend on his influence on the team over the next few months.

The ex-Newcastle man will be playing for his next contract though, and he will hope to impress for Leicester to earn a new deal.

Harry Winks

It has been reported that Winks is the highest paid player in the EFL, and it’s almost certain that he will be on the move in the summer.

Since Enzo Maresca left the club, Winks’ Foxes career has gone downhill, and he hasn’t endeared himself to supporters with some off-field disputes with managers in the past.

So, an exit will suit all parties, and it will free up a lot of space on the wage bill for the club.

Wanya Marcal

The attacker is way down the pecking order at Leicester, and whilst things could change under a new manager in theory, it seems a long shot.

At 23, Marcal is at a stage in his career where he needs to be playing week in, week out, and that’s not going to happen at the King Power Stadium.

Therefore, Marcal is another who seems certain to depart in the summer when his contract expires.

Jordan Ayew

Ayew has had a tough 18 months or so since he joined Leicester, and he is another who isn’t the most popular among the fanbase.

At 34, his best days are behind him, and given Ayew’s pedigree, and the fact he joined Leicester when they were a Premier League club, he is likely to be commanding a big salary.

That means he will be another player to leave as part of the big summer clear out that is on the way, although Ayew is still likely to feature regularly over the next few months.

Patson Daka

Finally, Daka is yet another big-money signing that is set to leave Leicester on a free in the summer, with the ex-Salzburg man entering the final months of his deal.

The Zambian international hasn’t lived up to expectations since his arrival, and he will be on a decent wage when you consider the Foxes paid around £23m to sign the striker.
