Joel Piroe is now on the brink of joining West Ham United from Leeds United.

The striker fell well down the pecking order under Daniel Farke at Elland Road last season and had only limited opportunities in the Premier League.

He could have left in the winter transfer window, but decided to stick it out until the end of the season at Leeds.

Staying longer did not improve Piroe’s situation and Leeds have been open to letting him go this summer, with a £16m price tag slapped on his head.

In recent days, West Ham have been making progress on a deal to sign Piroe from Leeds on the basis of a loan agreement with an obligation to buy in the event of promotion.

Now the move is close as Piroe ‘has completed his medical’ at West Ham, according to Dutch journalist Joost Blauuwhof.

Having come through the medical tests with the Hammers, the only thing that is missing is Piroe putting pen to paper with the club.

Piroe is a proven goalscorer at Championship level and netted 19 times as Leeds won the division in 2024/2025.

Hammers boss Nuno Espirito Santo is backing on the striker to reproduce those numbers at the London Stadium and fire his side back up to the Premier League.

Such an outcome would work well for Leeds, as it would allow them to shift Piroe on for a substantial fee.

Piroe could be in line to make his West Ham debut this coming weekend when the Hammers are in action at the London Stadium against Charlton Athletic.

Whites boss Daniel Farke could well bring in another striker before the transfer window closes, with both Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin having suffered injury issues in their respective careers.
