Australian international Hayley Raso is expected to stay at Tottenham after her proposed transfer to Benfica reportedly fell through.
Raso joined Tottenham in the summer of 2024 but endured a difficult end to her first season at the club.
After failing to score in her final 12 appearances, it looked a strong possibility that she could leave the club before the end of the summer transfer window.
The Athletic last month reported that Benfica were in talks to sign the 30-year-old.
Soccerdonna has reported that the move which would have seen Hayley Raso join Benfica from Tottenham has collapsed.
It appears as though the two clubs were unable to meet terms over the 30-year-old Australian winger.
Raso now looks likely to stay at Tottenham unless another club comes in for her before the end of the summer transfer window.
There is not much time for Raso to find a move away from Tottenham, with the transfer window closing on September 4th.
If she does stay at Tottenham, she will hope that new head coach Martin Ho can bring her back to her best form, after struggling under Robert Vilahamn last season.
Australian international Hayley Raso has played for several big clubs since making the move to Europe in 2020.
She joined Everton from Brisbane Roar in the summer of 2020, scoring five goals in 22 Women’s Super League appearances.
Her excellent displays led to a move to Manchester City the following summer. During her two years at City, she scored nine goals in 47 appearances across all competitions.
Raso then became the first Australian to ever play for Real Madrid Women, when she joined the Spanish giants in 2023.
The winger scored four goals in 39 appearances for Madrid before she returned to the WSL at Tottenham last year.
Now the question is whether Raso, who has 99 caps for Australia, will be set to join her fourth club in six years.
Hayley Raso could be in action for Tottenham when they start their Women’s Super League season against London rivals West Ham on Sunday, September 7th.
Tottenham finished 11th in the WSL last season but are hopeful that they can kick on under new boss Martin Ho.
The club have had an encouraging pre-season, most recently beating north London rivals Arsenal in a seven-goal 4-3 thriller.
