Ex-Switzerland defender Stephane Henchoz believes Leeds United new boy Nico Elvedi can establish himself as a regular in the Whites’ team if he can replicate his World Cup form.
After eleven years with Borussia Monchengladbach, Elvedi has opted for a new challenge in the Premier League, joining Daniel Farke’s side on a three-year deal.
The 29-year-old arrives on the back of an impressive World Cup campaign in North America, where he started all six of Switzerland’s matches and played every minute of their run before they were eliminated by Argentina in the quarter-finals.
That tournament form followed a strong Bundesliga campaign last season, with Elvedi making 33 starts while contributing two goals and three assists.
Henchoz believes the Swiss defender can quickly establish himself as a regular at Elland Road if he can replicate the level of performance he produced at the World Cup.

The former Switzerland defender feels that maintaining that standard would be enough for the 29-year-old to become a first-choice player for the Premier League side.
He said in an interview with Swiss daily Blick: “The same goes for Nico Elvedi.
“If he plays at the level he had at the World Cup, he will immediately establish himself as a regular at Leeds United.”
Signed after the pre-season campaign, Elvedi is still waiting to make his Leeds debut, with Saturday’s clash against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground offering him the chance to make his first appearance for the Whites.

Alongside Elvedi, Leeds also brought in Tarik Muharemovic to bolster their central defensive ranks, with the new arrival already earning praise from his teammate for his composure and control on the ball.
Farke has favoured a three-at-the-back system and the two new boys could line up alongside one another when Leeds begin their Premier League campaign at the weekend.
Joe Rodon though continues to be central to Farke’s thinking and he penned a new contract recently.
