Leeds United sign Switzerland defender Nico Elvedi | OneFootball

Leeds United have completed the signing of Switzerland defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Mönchengladbach for a deal worth £8.5m.

The 29-year-old has signed a three-year contract at Elland Road and will reunite with manager Daniel Farke, who coached him at Mönchengladbach during the 2022-23 season.

The Bundesliga club accepted an initial £6.8m fee, with a further £1.7m available in add-ons. Elvedi spent 11 years at Mönchengladbach after joining from FC Zürich in 2015, making 364 appearances.

He has won 73 caps for Switzerland and played every minute of their run to the quarter-finals of the recent World Cup.

Elvedi is Leeds' fourth signing of the summer, following James Trafford, Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic.

His arrival comes after fellow defender Sebastiaan Bornauw joined Hamburg on a season-long loan. Elvedi could make his Leeds debut in Saturday's Premier League opener away to Nottingham Forest.
