Veteran striker Hernane is open to the idea of donning the famous colours of Flamengo again before he retires.

The journeyman attacker spent three years with the Rubro-Negro between 2012 and 2014 (the first season on loan from São Paulo).

Speaking to Fox Sports, Hernane said: “When the fan sees me on the street, he asks me to come back and I think this is recognition of a job well done.

“It is marked in history and nobody can erase what I did with the Flamengo shirt.

“If I have the opportunity (to return) one day, who knows?”

The 32-year-old believes he is idolised by the Rio club’s fans due to his achievements for them.

“I consider myself an idol of Flamengo,” Hernane said.

“Especially because I was able to help win the Copa do Brasil and the Campeonato Carioca. Not only by the titles, but also by my numbers.

“I have 45 goals in 86 games. So, these are very good numbers that after six years Gabigol came to beat. Until then, no one else had knocked. So, I see myself as an idol, yes.”

Hernane will be back playing in Brazil’s top flight in 2020 after helping Sport Recife gain promotion from Serie B last year.
