Hero of 1976: Corinthians unveil patch in tribute to former keeper Tobias | OneFootball

Late in the afternoon this Thursday (1), Corinthians announced on its social media the release of a patch honoring goalkeeper Tobias, who was one of Timão’s great figures during the Corinthians Invasion in December 1976, in the semifinal of that year’s Brazilian Championship against Fluminense.

In material shared through its communication channels, the club from Parque São Jorge, with narration by Cássio Brandão, a Corinthians fan known for being the world’s biggest shirt collector, recalls the former goalkeeper’s journey wearing Timão’s shirt. Those who purchase the patch will be able to bring a compatible cellphone close to the product to access content recorded at the Corinthians Memorial, featuring a specific moment in the goalkeeper’s history with the club.

Recently, it is worth remembering, Corinthians launched its third kit — blue in color — for the 2026/2027 season, paying tribute precisely to Tobias and the 50th anniversary of the Corinthians Invasion in Rio de Janeiro. In the new shirt collection for this season, the crest was given an aesthetic referring to the models from the 1940s and 1980s, created by former player Francisco Rebolo.

At the beginning of September, Timão debuted the new gear, worn by goalkeeper Hugo Souza, on Sunday, September 20, in the 3-1 defeat against Fluminense in Itaquera, in the 28th round of the Brazilian Championship. Tobias, who played for Corinthians between October 1975 and May 1978, ended up passing away in 2024. Wearing the Corinthians shirt, he played 125 matches (118 as a starter), with 67 wins, 29 draws, and 29 losses — a 61.3% success rate.

In addition, he won two titles with Alvinegro: the State Governor’s Cup and the Campeonato Paulista, both in 1977. In 1976, he was the hero of the Parque São Jorge club’s qualification for the Brasileirão final, saving two shots against Fluminense in the penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time.
