We asked our Huddersfield Town fan pundit who he expects to leave the club before the transfer window shuts
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more...
Josh Koroma has been tipped to leave Huddersfield Town this month, with the 26-year-old set to struggle for regular playing time after the Terriers' January business.
The Sierra Leone international joined Huddersfield in the summer of 2019 and has been an excellent servant to the club, but he's out of contract at the end of the current campaign, and has often been used out of position this season.
Koroma has been used as a wingback in the absence of Mikel Miller in recent times, but they've bolstered their ranks there with the signing of Ruben Roosken from Dutch side Heracles Almelo this month.
Our Huddersfield Town fan pundit believes that the signs point to a John Smith's Stadium exit for Koroma this month, and believes the 26-year-old might be keen to move on.
We asked our Huddersfield Town fan pundit, Graeme Rayner, which player he thinks will be keen to move on before the transfer window closes, and he's tipped for Koroma to push for an exit.
Speaking to Football League World, Graeme said: "In terms of players wanting to get away before 3rd February, I would possibly say Josh Koroma.
“He might think that his future lay elsewhere, we’ve brought in a number of strikers so he might think he’s not going to get a look in there.
“He’s not very good or not very effective from the left wingback role he’s been used since the injury to Mikel Miller, and with Miller and the new signing Ruben Roosken being brought in from the Netherlands, he’s not going to get a look in there either.
“I suspect if I was Josh Koroma I’d be thinking ‘is there somewhere else I can ply my trade’, so perhaps he’d be looking to get away. Whether that’s on loan or sale I don’t know, but I expect a sale and if it gets him off the wage bill alone, then that’s not bad either.”
With Koroma's deal set to expire in the summer, selling him this month could be a smart option to ensure they bring in some sort of fee.
It's a difficult situation for Michael Duff as Koroma has shown his class at times this season, and while he's been used out of position quite frequently, he's still registered six goals and two assists in all competitions so far this year.
However, nearly all of these came early in the season when he was being used as a striker, and with the Terriers bringing in the likes of Joe Taylor and Dion Charles this month, it's difficult to see where he fits in.
Koroma could be still be a huge asset to Huddersfield if used correctly, but given his contract situation and some of the players brought in this month, he could be keen to bring his five-and-a-half year stay at The John Smith's Stadium to an end in the near future.
