In an interview with Téléfoot, France U21 assistant manager Gaël Clichy was asked about the potential of Lyon captain Alexandre Lacazette (32) representing France at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The Lyon forward has been in inspired form in 2024 and has had a huge part to play in OL’s dramatic upturn in form under the management of Pierre Sage. After 16 matches of the Ligue 1 season, Lyon occupied the final relegation spot. Fast-forward and OL could go seventh with a win against Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday evening. Their captain has been integral to this turnaround.
Lacazette has scored eight goals in 2024. This impressive form has seen him linked with a surprise inclusion in Thierry Henry’s France squad to represent Les Bleus at the Olympics in Paris. According to Le Parisien, the France U21 manager dreams of Kylian Mbappé (25), Antoine Griezmann (32) and Olivier Giroud (37) representing France.
Asked about the potential inclusion of Lacazette, Clichy said, “I see that he has a lot of playing time, I see that he is decisive and above all I see that he is a captain. He is a part of this list. Inevitably, there will be some surprises.” Lacazette representing France would certainly be a surprise. The Lyon captain has not represented France since 2017.
