Honduras, Costa Rica to seal their place in the Third Round

MIAMI – Honduras and Costa Rica will seek to secure their place in the Third and Final Round as the Second Round of the Concacaf Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2026 continues on Saturday with matches in Groups A and B.
The Road to the 2026 continues for Concacaf nations with the final encounters of the Second Round during the June 2025 match window. The group winners and runners-up will progress to the Third and Final Round.
Cayman Islands vs. Honduras
The Cayman Islands hosts Honduras in Group A at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town, Cayman Islands.
Joshwa Campbell scored a dramatic winner to kick off the Cayman Islands’ campaign last year. With three points in hand, the Caribbean nation seeks to continue adding points in its qualification hopes.
Honduras will seek its third consecutive victory to solidify a place in the next round after wins against Cuba and Bermuda. Edwin Rodríguez leads the nation in scoring with two goals.

They will face each other for the first time in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers and in their overall history.
Cayman Islands will face a Central American team for the 5th time in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, with a record of (W-0 D-2 L-2 GF-2 GA-9).
The last two times they faced Central American opponents, they managed to draw against Belize in the Russia 2018 Qualifiers in a two-legged series in Round 1.
First Leg - March 25, 2015 – FFB Field, Belmopan (BLZ) – 0-0 draw.
Second Leg - March 29, 2015 – Truman Bodden, George Town (CAY) – 1-1 draw.
Mark Ebanks (5’) scored for Cayman Islands, and Elroy Kuylen (20’) equalized for Belize. Belize advanced on the away goals rule.
Honduras, on the other hand, will face a team from Overseas Territories for the 5th time in the World Cup Qualifiers, with a record of (W-3 D-1 L-0 GF-14 GA-4).
Honduras has won three consecutive matches against Overseas Territories opponents.
The only draw came against Curaçao (2-2) in the Germany 1974 Qualifiers on Matchday 4 of the Final Hexagonal on December 12, 1973, at Sylvio Cator Stadium in Port-au-Prince (HAI).
Honduras’ goals were scored by Rigoberto Sosa (33’) and Rubén Guifarro (50’), while Curaçao’s goals came from Rignald Clemencia (62’) and Erroll Jago (73’).

The Bahamas hosts Costa Rica in Group B at Wildey Turf in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Coming off a loss at Grenada on Wednesday, The Bahamas seeks to close out its qualification campaign with a victory. Wood Julmis scored the only Bahamas goal in its three second round encounters.
Costa Rica will seek its third victory to move on to the final round. Los Ticos kicked off their campaign last year with multi-goal victories over Saint Kitts and Nevis and Grenada. Orlando Galo leads the nation in scoring with two goals.

Bahamas will face a Central American team for the first time in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
In recent history, the last time Bahamas faced a Central American opponent was at the National Stadium in Managua in a 0-4 loss against Nicaragua in the Concacaf Nations League on June 13, 2022.
Goals for Nicaragua were scored by Juan Barrera (Penalty 19’), Jaime Moreno (34’, 45’), and Ariagner Smith (Penalty 74’).
Costa Rica, on the other hand, will face a Caribbean team for the 45th time in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, with a record of (W-32 D-10 L-2 GF-93 GA-22).
Costa Rica is currently on a 27-match unbeaten streak against Caribbean opponents in the World Cup Qualifiers (W-24 D-7).
Their last loss came nearly 25 years ago, a 1-2 defeat to Barbados on July 16, 2000, at the Waterford National Stadium in Waterford (BRB).
Barbados’ goals were scored by Llewellyn Riley (49’) and Michael Forde (84’), while Costa Rica’s lone goal was netted by Alexander Madrigal (48’).
