How Greenwood and Lukaku are faring in Türkiye as Roma face Fenerbahçe

Roma return to the Champions League after seven years with a daunting opener at Fenerbahçe, and the spotlight falls on Mason Greenwood and Romelu Lukaku. According to Goal.com, one is a former Giallorossi striker and the other was a near signing in the summer, now both are opponents on debut night.

Greenwood has started strongly in Türkiye, justifying a fee of roughly €40 million. Used mainly as a right winger in Ismail Kartal’s 4-2-3-1, he could shift inside as a No 10 with Dorgeles Nene wide. He has 10 appearances, four goals, including against Lyon and Sturm Graz, plus a couple of assists.

He was quiet in the defeat to Besiktas, although he completed 90 minutes. After a brief bedding-in, his starting place has not been in doubt.

Greenwood also faced a scare over eligibility for this game. He was fined €30,000 for his role in the post-match brawl after Lyon v Fenerbahçe and handed a one-match ban, suspended for one year, so he is available.

Lukaku will be involved, but not from the first minute, reflecting a gradual integration. Last season he barely featured after a serious training-camp injury, then late physical issues heightened friction with his former club. In Istanbul he received a star welcome, yet he has only five substitute cameos so far, with no goals or assists.

Vedat Muriqi is set to lead the line. The former Lazio forward has three goals since arriving from Mallorca in June, including one away to Lyon. Milan Skriniar is expected to partner Aké in central defence. Matteo Guendouzi is suspended after the Lyon fracas. He was fined €50,000 and given a four-match ban, with two games suspended for one year, so he will be eligible from the third group match and will not face Paulo Dybala.
