Clubs in Série A and Série B have approved a gradual cut to the number of foreign players permitted per match, sharpening Palmeiras’ long-term planning.

According to Nosso Palestra, Palmeiras currently have seven first-team players born outside Brazil: Gustavo Gómez, Piquerez, Barboza, Emiliano Martínez, Jhon Arias, Flaco López and Ramón Sosa.

Gómez, Piquerez, Sosa and Flaco López are tied to 2030, expiring in December 2030, July 2030, June 2030 and December 2030 respectively. Arias and Emiliano Martínez are contracted until December 2029, while Barboza’s deal runs to December 2028.

Palmeiras announced in August that captain Gómez had extended from an initial 2027 expiry to 2030. Flaco first renewed through December 2029 then, in a subsequent update, pushed that to December 2030.

Jhon Arias arrived early in 2026 on a contract to December 2029 after a spell at Wolverhampton. The club have lately favoured longer deals to keep a stable core.

From 2027 the matchday cap will be eight, dropping to seven in 2028, six in 2029 and five in 2030. The limit applies to the list for each game, so Palmeiras could retain more foreign players overall and select who is available.
