Trabzonspor have underlined their ambition by handing their new superstar Mohamed Salah the most lucrative contract in Turkish football history. The former Liverpool forward has signed a two-year deal after agreeing to terminate his Anfield contract one season early, ending a legendary nine-year spell in England.

That works out at around £280,000 a week, before additional payments are included.

The agreement reportedly contains a €5 million signing-on bonus, potentially increasing his total weekly earnings beyond £360,000.

The package places him above Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen, whose reported €15 million annual salary previously set the benchmark in Turkey.

The Guardian adds that the contract includes an image-rights arrangement and a percentage of revenue from shirt sales.

That clause could become extremely valuable because Salah is not merely a footballer for Trabzonspor, he is now their biggest global commercial asset.

The deal is expensive, but Trabzonspor would never have attracted a player of this profile through sporting ambition alone.

Interest from European clubs, MLS and the Saudi Pro League gave Salah several alternatives, forcing the Turkish side to produce an exceptional financial proposal.

From a footballing perspective, his finishing, creativity and experience should immediately improve Fatih Tekke’s attack.
