The former Manchester United man could be vital to Rob Edwards' side this season
Luton Town have endured something of a tough start to the 2024/25 Championship season.
Following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the previous campaign, the Hatters will have been looking for a swift response this time around.
However, it took them until a 1-0 win over Millwall at The Den on Saturday to finally get their first win of the campaign, in their fifth league outing.
Now they have got that though, Rob Edwards' side will surely be looking to kick on and climb back up the table in the coming months.
If they are to do that, then Tahith Chong is one player who may have an important contribution to make for them.
Chong first joined the Hatters last summer, when he joined following their promotion to the Premier League, signing from Birmingham City for a reported £4million fee.
The winger had only joined the Blues permanently in the summer of 2022, when he had signed from Manchester United after a loan stint at St Andrew's.
He had also previously spent temporary spells in Germany with Werder Bremen, and Belgium with Club Brugge.
Chong impressed for Luton in the Premier League last season.
The Hatters therefore did some good business in the summer by retaining the services of the winger, despite their relegation from the Championship.
Indeed, there were reports of interest in the 24-year-old from clubs both in the Premier League and abroad during the transfer window.
Luton, though, were said to value the former Dutch youth international at £10million, and as such, they were able to retain his services beyond the deadline on the 30th August.
But just how much could the club be paying in terms of wages, in order to keep Chong at Kenilworth Road?
According to what are estimates from Capology, it looks as though the winger is one of the very highest-paid players in the squad available to manager Rob Edwards.
According to these predicted figures from the football finances site, Chong is currently being paid £30,000 per week at Luton Town. That works out at £1.56million per year.
Given the club did not announce the length of Chong's contract when they signed him, but stated it was a long-term deal, they could have a sizable amount to pay him if he stays for its duration.
Indeed, it appears there are not too many players who stand to earn as much from Luton as the winger does in the next few years.
As per Capology, no other member of the Hatters' first-team squad receives a higher weekly wage than Chong does at this moment in time.
It is also thought that only two of his current teammates, attacker Jacob Brown and midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, are being paid the same amount as the winger at Kenilworth Road.
Consequently, with Luton no doubt wanting to get a return on their investment in Chong with his wages, the 24-year-old is surely going to be under some pressure to deliver, over the course of the season.
